Positives -- Physical ability is off the charts, an imposing physical specimen at his size and is one of the fastest players in the Big Ten... Teams have to game plan around him... Rare skill-set, the type of player that will find a way on a team no matter how well he plays at quarterback... Very strong lower
body, runs straight through arm tackles and is very difficult to bring to the ground... Above average arm strength, can sling the ball a long ways... Solid production at Ohio State, plays up to the competition... Has significantly improved as a decision maker over the last few seasons, knows not to throw into double coverage and his running ability allows him to take off rather than force a bad throw... Has improved each year he's been at Ohio State as a passer and should continue to get better with NFL coaching... Best broken play quarterback in college football.
Negatives -- Would like to see him put a little more velocity on his deep throws... All over the place with his passes, doesn't lead his receivers properly and makes his receivers work for catches... Throws with a low three-quarters release... Inconsistent footwork, will look like a textbook drop-back passer one play and the next he'll look really sloppy, throws off-balance and on the run too often when under pressure, needs to learn to step into the pressure and deliver accurate passes... Not a great game manager, executes the game plan but when things aren't working, doesn't look to change things up and figure out a solution... Current offense is tailored for his success at the collegiate level, takes most of his snaps out of the shotgun... Has a reputation for being selfish and immature, sold his Big 10 Championship ring along with personal awards, has announced he will not play for Ohio State this fall... Has signed with an agent and declared for the 2011 Supplemental Draft; however, will not be able to play in the first five games of the 2011 season after he signs a contract.
At Ohio State -- (Official School Bio) Dynamic quarterback who continues to grow within the Buckeye offense... experience has helped him understand the game... can make the big throw... speedy and shifty as a ballcarrier... conscientious in wanting to improve every facet of his play... 19-3 as a starter... ranks 11th among Ohio State career total offense leaders with 4,808 yards... 11 career games of 200+ yards total offense... fifth Buckeye quarterback to ever rush for more than 1,000 career yards (1,403)... holds two (Toledo, Minnesota, 2009) of the only three games in OSU history where a QB has rushed for 100 and passed for 200 yards in same contest; Troy Smith has the other one (Michigan, 2004). 2009: Big Ten preseason offensive player of year... honorable mention all-Big Ten... Davey O'Brien Award watch list... Manning Award watch list... 167-295 passing for 2,094 yards, with 18 TD vs. 11 interceptions... Ohio State's leading rusher with 779 yards... six TD passes and only two interceptions in last five games of regular season, all wins to clinch Big Ten title... rushing TDs against seven opponents... hit 11 different targets during the season... 14-21 passing for 174 yards vs. Navy... 177 yards passing vs. USC... first 300-yard total offense game came against Toledo in Cleveland, with 110 yards rushing (1 TD) and 262 yards passing (3 TD)... sloppy conditions vs. Illinois held him to just 82 yards passing, 59 rushing... 17-28 for 166 yards passing with three scores at Indiana... 32-yard TD pass to DeVier Posey in the Wisconsin win... 17-31 for 221 yards passing at Purdue, but two interceptions and two fumbles... 343 yards total offense in Minnesota win, rushing for 104 (1 TD) and passing for 239 (13-25, 2 TD)... rushed for 83 yards (1 TD) and passed for 135 (1 TD) in first half vs. New Mexico State... passed for two TD and rushed for another at Penn State... 14-17 passing in the Iowa win... rushed for 74 yards and had a TD pass to Dan Herron at Michigan... Rose Bowl MVP, with 72 yards rushing and 23-37 passing for 266 yards, with TD passes to Brandon Saine and Posey... offensive player of week: Minnesota, Penn State... Archie Griffin Award (outstanding offensive player) from Ohio State coaches... Big Ten all-academic... second-year letter winner.
